3.500 European EV Charging Companies employ 80.000 people in 2025, heading towards 160.000 in 2030

The European EV charging infrastructure sector is undergoing rapid expansion, creating tens of thousands of new jobs. According to research by P3 and ChargeUp Europe, employment in this industry is expected to more than double between 2025 and 2030, growing from 80.000 to 162.000 full-time positions. This represents a 102.5% increase in just five years, solidifying the charging sector’s role as a key driver of Europe’s green energy transition and employment market. With governments across Europe accelerating zero-emission policies and electric vehicle (EV) adoption surging, demand for charging infrastructure professionals is at an all-time high. The sector already supports over 3.500 active companies, spanning Charge Point Operators (CPOs), Electric Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs), Charging Software Providers, manufacturers of AC and DC Solutions and Installation, Service and Maintenance companies specialized in EV Charging.

Europe’s Expanding EV Charging Market: 3.500+ Active Companies

According to EVBoosters – Expert in EV Charging Recruitment – the EV charging industry in Europe is dominated by Charge Point Operators (CPOs), with a particularly high concentration in Germany, where nearly every DSO (Stadtwerke) also provides charging services.

Beyond CPOs, other key players in the sector include:

  • Electric Mobility Service Providers (eMSPs) – offering services to drivers
  • Charging Software Providers – developing platforms for charge point management, billing, and smart charging.
  • Service & Installation Companies – responsible for deploying, servicing and maintaining charging networks.
  • AC and DC Manufacturers – producing hardware for home, work, commercial, and ultra-fast charging solutions.

Employment is also geographically diverse, with the highest concentration of workers in Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Finland, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Meanwhile, Belgium, Denmark, Spain, and Italy are rapidly expanding their charging infrastructure, with businesses increasingly operating beyond their national borders.

Building the Workforce for the EV Charging Revolution

Governments, businesses, and investors must collaborate to ensure that Europe’s workforce is prepared for this next phase of electrification. Strategies to bridge the skills gap and attract new talent include:

  • Training and upskilling programmes – developing expertise in EV infrastructure installation, maintenance, and smart grid integration.
  • Investment in research and innovation – driving the development of faster, smarter, and more sustainable charging solutions.
  • Policy incentives – supporting job creation through funding for green energy jobs and EV infrastructure expansion.
