At present, more than 20 million EVs hit our global roads

The worldwide fleet of passenger EVs is growing at a rate of 59% per year on average since 2015, with over 21 million EVs on the road by June 2022. Nearly half of that fleet (47%) is currently based in China, with Europe accounting for 32%.

In the first half of 2022, EVs accounted for 1.7% of all vehicles on the road worldwide. This represents an increase from 1.3% by the end of 2021.

Some countries are adopting faster than the global average, China leads the way, with 3.8% of its passenger vehicle fleet electrified in 1H 2022 (up from 2.9% in 2021), followed by Germany at 3.6% (up from 2.9% in 2021) and the United Kingdom at 2.4% (up from 2.3% in 2021).

Other markets, such as India and Mexico, are expanding at a slower pace. EV sales climbed fast in both countries in the first half of 2022, but it takes time for sales to gain a bigger share in the fleet. In India, EVs accounted for slightly over 0.1% of the fleet in the first half of the year.
