Since April's record high levels, average lithium prices have remained stable, with Chinese technical and battery-grade lithium carbonate prices continuing to rise. This is in stark contrast to other battery metals such as cobalt and nickel, which have seen price declines this year.

Since April’s record high levels, average lithium prices have remained stable, with Chinese technical and battery-grade lithium carbonate prices continuing to rise. This is in stark contrast to other battery metals such as cobalt and nickel, which have seen price declines this year.

Chinese battery-grade lithium carbonate prices have increased marginally since the beginning of June, but year to date, Chinese battery-grade lithium carbonate prices have increased by 90%, while lithium hydroxide prices have increased by 127%.

The passage of the Inflation Reduction Act in the United States has also shifted demand into high gear, accelerating the need for automakers to secure lithium sources, particularly in North America.
