Global growth, with regional differences
Volkswagen’s global BEV sales rose by almost 150.000 vehicles year-on-year, a clear sign of growing consumer demand and expanded production capacity. But the growth varied significantly by region:
Europe: BEV deliveries surged from 184.100 to 347.900, a +89% increase. Europe accounted for nearly 75% of the Group’s total electric sales in H1 2025.
United States: The U.S. market saw mixed results. BEV sales rose from 25.200 to 31.300 (+24,3%) over the six-month period. However, Q2 deliveries dropped slightly by 5,2%.
China: Once a key growth market, China saw BEV deliveries decline from 90.600 to 59.400 (−34,5%). Competition and local headwinds continue to challenge Volkswagen’s position.
Rest of the World: BEV deliveries rose from 17.300 to 27.000, an increase of +55,8%.
Across all markets and drivetrains, Volkswagen delivered 4,4 million vehicles in the first half of 2025. BEVs made up 10,57% of that total — up from 7% a year earlier.
Volkswagen’s best-selling Electric models in H1 2025
Volkswagen’s electric portfolio continues to expand, and several models stood out in H1 2025:
VW ID.4 / ID.5: With 84.900 units, this duo led the Group’s global EV sales.
VW ID.3: Delivered 60.700 vehicles.
Audi Q4 e-tron (incl. Sportback): Sold 44.600 units.
Skoda Enyaq (incl. Coupé) and VW ID.7 (incl. Tourer): Each delivered 38.700 units.
Audi Q6 e-tron (incl. Sportback): New to the list with 36.500 units.
Skoda Elroq: A strong newcomer with 34.300 deliveries.
ID. Buzz (incl. Cargo): Reached 27.600 units.
Porsche Macan EV: A powerful comeback with 25.900 vehicles.
Cupra Born: Rounded out the top 10 with 22.100 units.
This strong lineup reflects the Volkswagen Group’s dual platform strategy: MEB for high-volume vehicles and PPE for premium and luxury models.
Europe: The beating heart of VW’s EV momentum
Europe remains the most important EV market for Volkswagen. In H1 2025, nearly three out of four BEVs sold by the Group were delivered in Europe. This regional focus was supported by:
High EV adoption rates in key countries.
A growing charging infrastructure network.
A successful rollout of new models like the Skoda Elroq, the updated Enyaq, and the Audi Q6 e-tron.
Marco Schubert, Member of the Group Management Board for Sales, stated:
“One in five vehicles we delivered in Western Europe is now purely electric. EV orders in the region also rose by over 60% — a clear sign of growing demand.”
Commercial EVs: electric vans on the rise
Volkswagen is not just growing in the passenger EV segment. The Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand delivered 25.500 electric vans in the first half of 2025 — a +73,4% increase compared to 14.700 units in H1 2024.
This growth of 10.800 units was driven mainly by the rising popularity of the ID. Buzz and its Cargo variant. With fleet operators across Europe and beyond increasingly switching to electric, Volkswagen is gaining traction in commercial applications — especially last-mile delivery and urban logistics.
This makes Volkswagen one of the few global OEMs showing strong EV growth both in consumer and light commercial segments.
Heavy Trucks: A quiet but steady electric rEVolution
While still small in volume, Volkswagen’s Traton Group is showing rapid progress in electrifying heavy-duty vehicles:
MAN: From 240 to 810 units (+237,5%)
Scania: From 110 to 220 units (+100%)
International/Navistar: From 170 to 180 units (+5,9%)
Volkswagen Truck & Bus: Decreased from 80 to 50 units (−37,5%)
In total, the Traton Group delivered 1.300 electric trucks in H1 2025 — up from 600 in H1 2024. That’s a +116,7% increase, or +700 vehicles. While volumes are still modest, the trend is unmistakable: electrification is also reaching the heavy-duty sector.
Strong brand performances across the Board
Different brands within the Volkswagen Group contributed in unique ways:
Volkswagen Passenger Cars: Delivered 192.600 BEVs (+14,3%), despite a slight Q2 dip.
Skoda: More than doubled its BEV sales to 73.000 units (+147,8%), thanks to the Elroq and Enyaq.
SEAT / Cupra: Doubled sales to 37.600 units (+105,3%).
Audi: Delivered 101.400 BEVs (+32,3%), supported by new PPE models.
Porsche: Saw explosive growth — from 9.000 to 34.200 units (+279%) — powered by the electric Macan.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles: As noted, grew by +73,4%, led by the ID. Buzz.
VW Group: in full electric acceleration
Volkswagen’s first-half 2025 results clearly show that its electric strategy is working, especially in Europe. With BEV sales up nearly 47%, commercial EVs rising 73%, and heavy truck electrification more than doubling, the Group is pushing forward on all fronts.
China remains a challenge, and U.S. momentum is mixed. But Volkswagen’s diverse brand portfolio, strong European base, and expanding model range give it an edge in the global EV race.
With more models launching in the second half of 2025, the Group is well-positioned to continue this upward trajectory.
