BYD leading EV OEM in global car market

According to José Pontes (ev-volumes) BYD is leading the EV market with a 16,2% market share and 800.745 sold electric cars (BEV + PHEV).

Tesla currently holds second place in the market with a 12,5% share and 617.309 electric vehicles sold.

It will be the first time since 2018 that someone has been able to challenge Tesla’s market dominance, which can only be described as a positive step toward a more mature market.

Volkswagen AG came in 3rd with an 8,3% market share and 408.613 EVs sold, surpassing number 4 SAIC which had an 8,1% market share and 401.372 electric vehicles sold.

Lastly, Geely (Volvo) came in at number 5 with a 5,6% market share and 276.890 sold EVs.

Between January and July 2022 Electric plugin vehicles (BEV + PHEV) accounted for 12% of the global automotive market with 4.928.376 vehicles registered in this period.
